UPDATE
Saltash Town Council is
thrilled to announce that, following a successful funding application, we have
been awarded £100,000 from the Cornwall Council Community Infrastructure Levy
(CIL) Fund to bring the Waterside Improvement Project to life.
We would like to extend our
sincere gratitude to the members of Saltash Town Council for their support and
a £20,000 investment towards making this project a reality. We also thank
Cornwall Council for their continued backing, as well as our wonderful supporters—Livewire,
Ashtorre Rock, and Regatta.
The Waterside Improvement
Project will see the creation of a new play park and a beautifully designed
sensory garden within the Jubilee Green area at Waterside. These enhancements
will offer an inviting and accessible space for local families, residents, and
visitors to enjoy, play, and unwind.
Saltash Town Council is excited to embark on this journey and looks forward to sharing regular updates as the project unfolds. Stay tuned for all the exciting developments to come!

The Town Council is committed to contributing towards funding bids to help further secure funding opportunities, for this project, the Town Council agreed to contribute £20k from Earmarked Reserves Saltash Recreation Areas and CIL Planning.
We have two ideas designed to benefit all ages and abilities.
1. Create a new play area on Jubilee Green for children aged 7 years old and under
The new play facilities will:
- Be located adjacent to the car park with level access
- Offer a range of play equipment for young children that is fun, innovative and stimulating including equipment for children with special needs
- Incorporate safety railings, benches and appropriate ground surfacing all to British and European safety standards
- Include some interactive opportunities for children to learn about the heritage of Saltash Waterside
- Replace the current play area near Ashtorre Rock Community Centre which is in a poor state of repair and situated in a flood zone
2. Create a new sensory garden near the Waterside Pontoon
The new community garden will:
- Create a quiet reflective space for people to enjoy offering a special sensory experience
- Create a community garden with a wide range of plants and edible herbs adding to the biodiversity of our Waterside
- Provide interpretation about the heritage of Saltash Waterside and the Royal Albert Bridge as well as information on the plants
- Provide contemporary seating and picnic tables somewhere to enjoy the gardens and the Waterside vistas
- Provide a canopy giving shelter from sun or rain for all users including people waiting to catch the summer ferry to Plymouth Royal William Yard
- Transform the Waterside Office through cladding it with a smart vinyl cover celebrating Brunel and other key historical figures

Pillmere Community Play Provision, Saltash
Saltash Town Council, working in partnership with Pillmere Community Association, has identified an opportunity to improve play provision on Pillmere housing estate for young people of all ages to enjoy. Saltash Town Council applied for funding from Cornwall Council through the Community Infrastructure Levy funding pot and were successful in securing £75k funding. The Town Council is committed to contributing towards funding bids to help further secure funding opportunities, for this project, the Town Council agreed to contribute £20k from Earmarked Reserves Saltash Recreation Areas. Cornwall Council's funding and the Town Council's contribution allows two play areas to be regenerated, one at Honeysuckle Close and another at Grassmere Way. Over 100 surveys were completed last summer from residents across Pillmere who supported the provision of new play equipment for our young people.
Honeysuckle Close will provide new play equipment for children up to aged 7 years old and Grassmere Way as the larger of the two sites, will provide play opportunities for children up to 12 years old.
Having been through a competitive procurement process, we are delighted to say we have appointed experienced play contractors, Creative Play who have an excellent track record in providing fun, innovative and safe play areas and whose work complies with all British and European standards.
The timetable for the respective works subject to the pre installation site meeting and weather conditions at the time, is as follows:
- Week Commencing 9th September - Grassmere Way
- Around 25th September - Honeysuckle Close
Both Play areas will be completed by the end of October 2024.
Creative Play are used to working within community settings and we are assured that the installation will be respectful with as minimum inconvenience as is possible.
Saltash Town Council are meeting with Creative Play towards the end of August for a pre installation visit to plan the work and address any on site issues. Click here to view Creative Play's website.
The contractors will work within normal working hours of Monday to Friday 0830 to 1700.
